Open Registration – Telecommunications License

Course Overview

CSTA in conjunction with the Integracom Management Group are now offering the full range of Telecommunications courses including the Open Registration Telecommunications cabling license course (previously Austel licence). This course is aimed at electricians who want to hold a dual trade qualification enabling them to legally work on ELV systems such as telephone systems, nurse call systems; fire and security alarm systems as well as UTP, Coaxial and Optical fibre cabling systems.

Course Objectives

The qualification provides competencies to supervise selection, installation, commissioning, maintenance and testing electrical - instrumentation systems and equipment.

Core Units

The Open registration comprises of two core units

ICTCBL2 136A Restricted Registration
ICTCBL2 137A Open Registration

On successful completion of these two units a technician or electrician will be awarded a certificate of attainment allowing them to apply to a registrar of choice, to obtain their cabling registration card (Cabling licence)

Course includes a copy of the Standards as well as a KRONE termination tool.

Delivery + Assessment Methodology

There are three ways to complete this course:

Full time 5 Days Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Part time 10 Evenings Mon & Wed 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Self paced 2 days in workshop + Online 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Note: if you are coming in from overseas you may start your self study in your country of residence prior to arrival thus speeding up accreditation process.

Endorsements – Telecommunications License

Units for endorsements

Whereas the Open registration allows an electrician or technician to legally install UTP, Optical fibre and coaxial cable it does not state that they are competent to do so. Therefore there are three important endorsement courses that can be completed, with the endorsement codes added to the students Open Registration Card on successful completion.

They endorsement units are as follows:

ICTCBL3 009A Structured cabling installation
ICTCBL3 010A Optical fibre cabling
ICTCBL3 011A Coaxial cable

On successful completion of these three units a technician or electrician will be awarded a certificate of attainment allowing them to apply to their registrar to obtain their cabling endorsements on their licence.
